There's this silent war going on in Nigeria between the Yorubas and the Igbo and all I'm hearing from both ends of the argument are stereotypes. A stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing; because one of them does like this, all of them must be doing like that.

How backward to have our so called educated Nigerians making hasty generalizations about people and races. For the record, I'm Yoruba and my best friend, Chisom Ohuaka is Igbo. He is the exact opposite of everything that typifies an Igbo man. He is just another gentleman with a broader worldview blurring races, faith and gender. I have also known some Yoruba people that fit the stereotypes of an Igbo person. Vice versa. For instance I was once robbed as a tourist in South Africa, and it was by a Yoruba man who had been living in Joburg.

Actually, the person that eventually helped me out of the situation was an Igbo man. I have also had Igbo tenant who would not pay his rent and would require some forceful eviction. So have I experienced Yoruba neighbors who would be biting you hard in the heels and would also blow cold air onto it just to calm you down. We are all bloody human beings, complex in nature and devoid of stereotypes. To each, its own. ‪#‎StopTheWar‬ we all are Nigerians. Bloody, selfishly arrogant and accommodatingly sweet Nigerians.
