Ok, I'm sure you all know it's not news that the entire nation was grounded today because a plane had been obstructing the only runway in Nigeria capital's airport since the early morning. No prior information to passengers. Weddings were cancelled. Appointments missed. Surgeries were made complicated. Maybe some people lost their lives. It's possible. Well, everyday , I understand why more Nigerians now seek asylums. I am not putting up this status for all those. Too much information, right?
I am writing because of what my four eyes saw at the Lagos Airport today while hundreds of us were waiting. I looked up to the ceilings and found out that all the newly fixed lights and fixtures by the Aviation Ministry were already rusting away. In less than a year. Seriously, the glass partitions and installations were already cracking. Then, the toilets? The tiles were beginning to chip off. They didn't look like they were newly fixed with all those billions of Naira. So, I asked someone close to me, 'aren't these things newly installed?' He looked away from me and said with a hint of 'where-have-you -been-kindda-look?' He said to me "those stuff are cheappo Chinese stuff bought as German and paid for as the most expensive fixtures we could get our ailing airport."
So are you saying we shall be spending another billions to refurbish the airports soon? Is this a vicious cycle for the nation? Wasting away and languishing in the hands of those who will bleed her to death ? We urgently need a system, a process and check-and-balance Laws to keep our nation going. Wasted.
